Albany State University was founded as Albany Junior College in 1963 and, the institution offered its first classes in 1966. However, in November 2015, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia announced the consolidation of Albany State University and Darton State College. The Darton campus became Albany State University's West Campus. The nursing programs at the institution seek to foster the growth and development of the region, state, and nation through teaching, research, quality healthcare delivery, and public service. One of the perks of studying at the College of Nursing Program is that The Nursing Program prepares nurses to be safe, competent, effective, and efficient in delivering healthcare to diverse populations and underserved communities. Central to this mission is a supportive and diverse faculty that provides comprehensive, technology-enhanced didactic and experiential learning activities.
Accreditation
The associate, baccalaureate, master's, and post-master certificate nursing programs at Albany State University at the West Campus located in Albany, Georgia, and the associate nursing program at Albany State University at the Cordele Campus located in Cordele, Georgia, are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
The Georgia Board of Nursing approves the associate and baccalaureate nursing programs at Albany State University.
Modes of Learning
The ASN Program offers three tracks to accommodate student schedules: the Traditional ASN Track for those seeking a traditional college experience with daytime classes (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM); the Evening ASN Track for those who work during the day, with classes held between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM; and the Hybrid ASN Track, where students attend campus once a week (or twice if needed) for full-day sessions (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM), with additional coursework completed online, ensuring the same comprehensive theory and clinical requirements as traditional classroom students. The Healthcare Professional To RN Bridge program is designed as an accelerated program that meets one day a week to incorporate classroom lectures, online activities, and clinical rotations and is currently available on both our Albany and Cordele Campuses. The BSN programs are taken on campus. The RN-BS Program is fully online. The MSN Programs are fully online.
