schools with fewer applicants

Published

Hi everyone-this is my first time on here!

I need help finding a good nursing school that offers a bachelor's degree program but that doesn't have so many darn people applying to it! I live in oregon and the schools here have so many hundreds of people applying that it's nearly impossible to get in. I am single though and I am willing to move wherever in the country or even outside of the country (i just heard of a new nursing school in the bahamas!) to go to school. I've heard that midwest schools have less people applying at the moment. The fewer the applicants, the less the competition=the better the chance of getting in.

Any suggestions anyone?

Actually according to their website, three semesters cost $8, 516 each and two semesters cost $8,100, each. These fees do not include room, board or books. They only include tuition, airevac insurance and nursing lab fees.

I should have said earlier. I called IUON and spoke with the Dean of admissions. That's where I got my $. Not off the website.

yeah, I don't think I'm considering going to the school in St. Kitts any longer. It's pretty pricy, you only get your associates, and it would be a pretty big move. there is a school in the virgin islands though that i've been looking into as well that isn't as expensive and i'm pretty sure you can receive a bachelor's.

Hello Im new in the message board. Well new in the sense that I have never posted a message though I have been reading yours for a while. I just read the information about the school in St. Kitts and I honestly got very excited. I have been wanting to go there for a while and knowing that there is a nursing school there sounds great though I'm not sure I am willing to pay that much for an associates dregree. I have been trying like most of you to get into a nursing program but I haven't had any luck yet. oh I'm from California by the way... I am like you desperate and not sure if Im still willing to wait though i do know that i want to become a nurse. Anyways do you have any more information about the school in St. Kitts....

I found this at http://www.discovernursing.com there is a section on nursing schools without wait lists. It's great. For a short cut click on the link below....

Thanks for the help! I looked at the website and I think it's pretty crazy how few schools are on the no waitlist page considering how many nursing schools are out there.

So far, what I know about the school in St. Kitts is that you go there for 9 months and then you go to one of four affiliated schools in the U.S for the clinical portion. You receive an associates degree at the end. There is no waitlist currently to get in. Rather, they seem pretty eager for applicants. The school seems expensive to go to but it definatley would be fun :) I think their website is www. iuon.org. They are really good about getting back to you if you have questions. I hope this helps.

I've heard the schools in California are really hard to get into right now with really long waitlists. I'm above you in Oregon and the schools are extremely competitive right now.

HI Carin,

My plan is to go to St. Kitts this summer, and for what its worth, its not that bad. Think about it, if you get your Associates (RN) you would get the same income if you were a B.S. RN. I have read articles in numerous newspapers that eligible students who were qualified for a nursing program were either turned away or were placed on a waiting list. I think St. kitts provides the needs of those eligable students. Don't give up! You will soon find that school.

Here in Oklahoma at the University of Central Oklahoma last year they had 200 apply for 80 spots which IMO isn't bad at all. At the University of Oklahoma they had over 1,000 applicants so there can be a world of different for sure between schools, even in the same state. I've applied to both.

Also check out some of the private schools....I know the private colleges here that have BSN degrees are non-competitive and you just basically enroll and start your BSN.

Good luck.
