Hello! I'd like to ask current or soon-to-be PMHNPs whether the name of the school you went to has helped or hindered your job search in any way. I am currently living in Southern California but applying to PMHNP programs across the country, and would like to return to California after I finish school. I am trying to see if there is any reason for me to apply to a more well-known/Ivy league school versus a state program in returning to California to work. I appreciate any information you can share with me! Thanks!

In my area the biggies aren't impressive locally and in some case may be a hindrance because we know them and some have quite the delusions of grandeur. If you are taking a big name back to CA it might be impressive there.
What I am seeing now is that employers are learning the hard way that some new grads have never worked as a psych RN and that is becoming more important. At two of my jobs it is a requirement of new grads and a preference of post masters speciality hoppers.
Thanks for the information Jules!
