I'm getting sick myself, but I took some medicine and came to work. But it's so hard to feel so crappy and have 20 kids come in and it's barely 12 pm! Each of them with the same symptoms, headache, stuffy nose. There's not much I can do for them and I feel so bad for them and for myself as well. A lot of them went home too.

I feel I should call in tomorrow, I feel pretty bad.

You are not allowed to be sick. You should check the fine print of your contract..."prohibited from being sick during the school year." You could be terminated - no wait - the punishment is you will not be terminated - you have to stay employed - so, see ya tomorrow.

I will wager, considering the entire spectrum of the nursing profession, school nursing is at the top of the list for coming to work sick.

While I'm certain that many school nurses come to work sick- I think we get way more sick time that the average nurse! When I worked in sub-acute care, I got 6 sick days that I could use over 12 months (approx. 260 days). As a SN, I have 12 that I can use over 182 days that roll over indefinitely. I will use them if I need to :)

I try not to use my sick days when I'm sick...I'd rather use them for fun stuff.

lol, my sick days and personal days are together, I only get 7. Granted I try not to miss work, but I just feel so miserable today. And it's been crazy, it's barely 1:45 and I gotten 28 kids and usually I get less then that. I don't know what's going on, but lots of them are just coming in.

I get 8, but I also have to find my own subs. Which ain't always easy. It is why it is easier to push through some illness and take a scheduled day off. So much easier for me to arrange a sub ahead of time with a scheduled day off.

My kids are all sick too head colds but they are miserable with them. A few cases of severe man flu in my high school boys too. Thought I was going to lose one today!

Yes, I have more accumulated time than I can use as well. I'm not sick that much and for the past few years I've picked up few "comp" days for coming in prior to the contract date (and staying late). I wish they'd just put us on 10 month schedules like the teachers (that will cover a few days on both sides of the year and the in-service days in the year). Right now we're on a schedule where we only work when the kids are in the building.
