Sinus problems and food allergies?

Have any of you had any dealings with food allergies or food sensitivities being the cause of sinus congestion, coughing, and fever?

I have a student who has these symptoms (with the exception of fever) almost daily. The fever occurs 1-2x/week. He is seeing a physician; however, all testing is leading to a dead end so far. I'm wondering if he might be having a reaction to certain foods.

Does that sound crazy?

Can you see any correlation with his eating hot/warm foods at the time?

I start to snivel and snot & want to rip my nose off my face with itching. Happens all the time with soups, oatmeal, beverages, etc.

Not crazy.

Not really with hot/warm foods but definitely his symptoms are more pronounced after meals in general. He keeps the sinus-y sound, snotty nose, cough, headache... but worsening after lunch has become a trend. I don't think he is playing me either, bc he is really not a complainer or a frequent flyer.

I had this problem personally. I figured it out accidentally. I used to have awful sinus problems. I cut a food group out trying to solve a different problem I was having and voila, the sinus problems were gone. I had no idea. All that to say it's not a stretch to have this thought that food could be causing it....

Thank you! Sometimes these kinds of ideas pop into my head and I think to myself that I probably sound nuts :)

I'm glad you were able to figure out the culprit for yourself!!

yes for congestion and cough - no for fever

Has the parent brought him to an allergist for skin testing? I was tested over 20 years ago and the MD believed that the increased congestion after meals had to do with the reactions to the foods. I was allergic to a lot but only remember milk, wheat, and eggs right now.

I spoke to her about it and she was going to check with the physician to get a referral or testing scheduled.
