Sad that we may need a category for this.

Another school shooting in NoCal.

Thinking of NoCalMimi and hoping she's okay.

We had a real threat 2 years ago. A Janitor in the middle school making threats against a specific teacher, and then the whole school. The whole district was on lock down until he was arrested. Petrified.

I am just getting this thread read. OldDude- Your long post was great and right on and I read every word. Thank your for typing all that out. I actually wondered how close you were to the church shooting. 100 miles away- wow, I am so sorry.

I have to say, the next Sunday after that happened, I thought of an escape plan as I sat in church with many, many family members. I even wondered about having a training for our church..much like we do in schools for an Active Shooter. My heart is heavy for the all that were lost, but especially, the family that lost 8 members that morning. I know that this really could be us. My sister always sits right on the end of the pew on the middle aisle a few rows from the door. (We have to sit the adults strategically to be gate keepers at the end of the pews, to keep the little ones from escaping.) I watched a clip on Youtube of a Sunday or 2 before the shooting of the Praise and Worship part of the service. My understanding is that the camera was rolling when the shooting happened. The makes me shutter to think of law enforcement having to watch that...almost to the point of making me sick to my stomach.

The second Sunday after the church shooting- the same thoughts went through my head, this time as I was standing up front singing. I know we are not assured another minute. Things I never thought I would ever need to think about. My mom and dad's heart would be so broken if they were still alive to see the mess that this world has become. I can rest assured and am glad that I have my Faith in God, and I know that whatever happens, live or die....I Win....either way.

As far as not standing for the flag---oh my, oh my. Really glad my dad isn't around to see that. A few days past Veteran's Day- I am going to say- He was a very, very proud American that fought in WWII- with 2 of his brothers. His heart would be broken.

School Shootings- I go over it everyday in my head. Being in a different building everyday, I have to. I am glad that we have changed the way of thinking of how to respond to an Active Shooter....basically, get out of and away from the building if at all possible, and if it's not possible, create as much havoc as possible to distract the shooter from what he/she is trying to accomplish. We are not trained to hide, unless that is THE last resort.

Happy Thursday Friends- Hug your loved ones, and tell them you love them.

Poodles- A very bigggg huggggggggg to you. Anxiety can be crippling. I hope that your doc. gets your medicine adjusted and you can find your ways to cope with all the craziness of the world. Please keep us updated on how you are doing.

My older son, got tickets for him and I to go to a concert in KC in a few weeks. I am a little scared to go, but, would never disappoint him by not going.

Peace Friends.

Standing for the flag is another issue altogether. I disagree with you completely and have had Veterans in my life that feel the same.

BTW, I stand for the flag.

Let's not open that can of worms.

Please?:inlove:

You must go. We have to live. We can't hunker down in the face of this.

Please go. Show your son to keep on living.

My main point of that- was that I am glad my dad is not here to witness all this mess.

I am ok that you disagree, I think that is what so so cool about this group. We still love to sit together on Wednesdays...and every other day of the week for that matter.

Oh, I am going. It just seems so stupid that I would even have to have these thoughts.

I am, but also sorry that your dad is not here. In general.:sorry:

I'm not ashamed to say I don't pay attention to it anymore. It has become so frequent...Hence the reason I celebrate the football players who kneel during the national anthem. I too have nothing to celebrate in how this country is turning out either.

Your first two sentences struck my negative side but I got back on board with ya, in agreement, until the last two sentences...

1. Kneeling during the national anthem has nothing to do with whether you agree or disagree with racial discrimination, the current political, or government climate, and has EVERYTHING to do with having and showing the respect and dignity to recognize those who died and are maimed, physically and emotionally, to give us the opportunity to whine about what we want to at will.

2. Your last sentence indicates you are agreeing with someone about having nothing to celebrate in how this country is turning out. I don't recall the other posters saying that. Plenty disagree with whats going on but you're the only one who said you have "nothing to celebrate." I celebrate that I live in the USA, the home of the free BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE, and I wouldn't want to live in any other country; just in case anyone was thinking otherwise about my opinion.

I don't know. I kinda dig Finland.

It is not stupid. It is a human reaction.
