School nurses....do you work through the summer? Is it mandatory? If so how many hours per week? I am writing an article including the results of this poll in the next issue of allnurses magazine.

Add additional comments or areas that apply. I would also like to know of any other work you do during the summer

My contract is only for the days the students are in the building. I have worked summer school sessions before, but I'm not this summer.

Summer session is offered to our districts nurses, but none of us ever work it. One of the nurses does work the week of band camp, but that's just 1 week. Our district also offers all school year employees (not just nurses) summer filing/typing work.

I work an 8 week residential summer camp.

Framing that I'll also work some Homecare hours if I don't have anything else going on and want the income

I've done an Extended School Year that wasn't related to the district I'm working in in the past, too.

Basically it's a "hmmm what do I want to do this year?" roll of the dice.

It's not mandatory, but I will be the camp nurse for the school district camp. It's 5 weeks, 5 days a week, for 3 hours.

I have 2 younger children (7&9), so I stay home with them over the summer. We are in the same district so it's perfect. I love the ability to spend time with my kids. If I didn't have children I would probably pick something up for a couple of days a week through summer.

I work part of the summer. My contract requires me to come in 10 days before regular employees do. Just me, and it is voluntary.
