Current Immunization Research

I am looking for some current reliable immunization research. It seems like there has been a recent resurgence of anti-vaxxers. So I would like to increase my knowledge of the actual facts so I can better discuss the facts.

Its really hard to find research because the internet is riddled with articles about "unvaccinated kids are healthier than vaccinated kids" and most of these still reference Wakefield as a reliable source.

"Facts" will be of no value in such an argument.

I took Paul Offit's Vaccine History course. It really helps to have a good background. And read any of his books.

The truth is, Old Dude is right. We've gone round and round here on AN with anti-vaxxers and I do so as well on FB . . . facts mean nada to them.

I would also like the facts for myself. Because I would like to be more informed.

When I was a vaccine nurse I attended the CDC's extensive training online, which can be summed up in "the Pink Book." It's really called Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases. Dr. Offut's training is valuable as well.

Two groups of parents: those who have obtained vaccines for their kids in the past but perhaps stopped at the 7th grade shots and those who have fully exempted their kids from day 1.

First group of parents: you can talk to them. I ask them what made them discontinue the vaccine series, then discuss the need for TDaP updates (we've had pertussis on campus) and that most colleges in our state want the student to have MCV.

Second group of parents: I tell them if the disease comes on campus they will have to hold their children out of school for the Department of Health-specified time of incubation. Because it's not productive.

Good luck!

I heard a lot of people talking about Vaxxed so I watched that film. Also watched The Truth About Vaccinations. Suzanne Humphries is also a great doctor who discusses vaccinations. I thought it was important to hear the other side of the argument and was interested in what they had to say.

Here's my solution to the anti-vaxxers in my school: No immunizations or a valid affidavit notarized? No school. Simple as that.

Thanks for the recommendation for books by Paul Offit. I just finished Autism False Prophets. It was very informative and does a really good job explaining the research at the time. It was written 10 years ago though. So now I am trying to find something more current.

I would also like the facts for myself. Because I would like to be more informed.

I just found this yesterday and it doesn't have to do with vaccines, but actually does have to do with autism. I know the main argument against vaccines is that vaccines cause autism, and this promising research shows what might actually be responsible for the surge in autism diagnoses. Really very interesting.
