That is my question. Do the school nurses in NY belong to a union? If so, which one?

It depends on the individual school district. As far as I know, all school nurses that work in the districts surrounding the suburbs of NYC are unionized. Each district is different. In some, the nurses are included in the teachers' union. In others, the civil service union. However, even if they are part of the teachers' union, if they are hired in an RN capacity and not a nurse-teacher capacity, they cannot participate in the NYS Teachers' Retirement System. As an RN in the public schools, we are entitled to belong to the NYSLR System (for civil service workers).
