Any parochial school nurses here?

I'm a part time school RN for a private Catholic school (preK-8) and have been offered the job full time in the fall. I am wondering about the pay because I have not received my official offer yet. I know it will be less than public but no clue as to how much. I was curious if any of you can provide any insight.

If you are already working there part time, don't you have an idea of what you would make going full time? Are you paid hourly?

I am. I'm paid hourly. I have no idea how much a public school nurse makes. When I subbed in a public school, I received $100 a day but once taxes were taken out, it wasn't much. I don't like stating exactly how much I make an hour but it was the same wage when I worked night shift on a sub acute floor. Not bad but could be making better money elsewhere.

I work for a private Christian school in GA and the pay is pretty awful. I don't mind saying: it's $115/day right now and that's only for the days that I work (180 days per year). That comes out to be $20,700 gross income. Not a livable wage by any means!

I've been a RN for 18 years and I can say this is definitely the lowest I've been paid in my entire career. But I do absolutely love being on schedule with my daughter, the regular schedule, short work day, summers & holidays off, mostly easy work days, etc. She has one more year here and I will probably try to hang on until she finishes. I get half off her tuition as well. My husband is paid very well which made me able to take the position but now we are going through a divorce. I'm able to survive on alimony & child support but I do need to leave by next year and make better money and set up a better future for myself!

I recently & inadvertently came across the pay schedule for faculty and saw that a brand new teacher, fresh out of school, starts at $30K and it was so disheartening. It made me feel so devalued and unimportant and take a good look at my role here at my school.

Anyway, you have to weigh your options and if a low salary would still be worth the benefits that come with the job.

That stinks NanapooRN. I love working as a school nurse but next year may be my last year as well. I need better insurance for my family. The school offers terrible insurance and I'm currently paying out of pocket for insurance which is way too pricey. And there is no advancing here, the pay is what it is. They won't help with tuition for me to get a BSN. I pay for my own CEUs. I will miss the lovely schedule and children. I always wanted to be a teacher but working as a school nurse is even better.

My girlfriend is a teacher in my district and she was making WAY more than I do, fresh out of college. It made me feel the same way.
