Santa ana, Golden West, Saddleback, and unheard colleges in SoCal

Published

I am sooooooo confused. I live in Orange county California. I do not know what colleges to apply to. For now, I am intending to apply to the Santa Ana and golden West college for their ADN. the problem is I found more colleges that I have never heard before. Those are Everest College in Anaheim (LPN), Stanbridge College in Irvine (LPN), West Coast University (LPN to ADN) in Anaheim, and Concordia in Garden Grove (LPN and ADN). Does anyone know if Santa Ana college or golden west, Saddleback College is better than those other colleges (everest, stanbridge, etc.)? does SAC and GWC do a better job in training nurses? help!!

I think the colleges for the LPN are private and you're going to pay more than if you attend the state community colleges like golden west or saddleback. I don't know if the previously mentioned colleges are better but you can check the passing rates on the Board of RN :

From what I understand, Saddleback has one of the best programs in OC. It's also very hard to get in. I would apply to all of them and then go from there if you get accepted to more than one.

Good luck.

Kforgood,

Definately do your research on LVN vs RN. Some hospitals nowadays (at least down here in San Diego) seem to use their LVN's more in the CNA role than the primary nurse role. Just make sure that the program you are applying to is the actual licence you want and plan to work with, especially if you're forking out a lot of money for tuition. A lot of LVNs after a few years experience tend to do LVN-RN bridge programs or challenge the RN boards it seems.

As far as schools go, I can't really speak towards the quality because I didn't attend their programs, but the waiting lists all seem to be at least 2 years for the ADN programs (Saddleback, Santa Ana, Santiago, Fullerton City). But you can always get a job working as a CNA or volunteer in a hospital, do pre-requisite classes, etc. while you're waiting. My advice is get your name on the lists ASAP if ADN is what you're aspiring towards :)

Every college follows the basic curriculum that the California Board of Nursing says it must. What you make of nursing school decides whether you are going to be a better nurse or not--not the school you go to. I went to College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California. Ever hear of it? I think I'm a great nurse. It's due in part to the fact that I've worked all over the country, in some great places and kept learning as I went. School doesn't stop on the day you graduate.

I'm thinking of going to College of the Desert. It's kind of far away but doable. Do you know anything about how competitive it is to get in?

Have you heard anything back? From what I hear its based on a lottery system. I am also trying to apply. Keep me posted and I will do the same.

BTW, where do you live? I just moved to Temecula and COD is one hour away from me.
