I applied to two programs in summer of 08 in hopes of getting into one soon but Grossmont College said the wait list was 3 years for the LVN-RN step up program, City didn't really say but said they accept about 12 LVN-RN students a year and I was number 35.

Well today I got a letter that says to take the Transition to Associate Degree in Nursing course beginning in March and to take the TEASE test! The letter said that the final decision about the number of students actually accepted into the nursing program would not be made until May 23rd :( But I am so happy anyway! At least I can do something towards getting my RN besides just waiting.

Does anyone else go to City? What is the program like? I am so worried that I will not be able to get in and will have to wait another year. :crying2:

i dont go to city but congrats!! i hope to tranfer to city to do lvn-rn bridge also. its good to hear that your wait was not that long! good luck!:yeah:

I got the same letter! I called the school and they are giving the TEAS to people who are the waiting list on Feb, 19th. In all honesty I hope I don't get picked this round. I am having a baby in April!

Just got an e-mail to enroll in the transition class. Anyone else?

I am now in the City College Nursing program. It is a really tough program so put yer skates on! :) I am really happy with the teachers and the clinical sites. What an awesome experience compared to the LVN program I was in! The students are really sharp and on their toes. They are very prepared for clinical and you have to be as well. The clinical instructors ask you a lot of questions that make you think about your patient and his condition. I've learned so much already. The program requires a lot of work. There are lots of "projects" to complete, the ATI's, and then study in your books too. I really want more time to read and study my books but I hold down a job on the weekend so it seems I never have enough time.

Jillian, if you applied last year and rolled over until this year then I am sure you are at the top of the list to get in. The school did accept our ENTIRE class of 22 students but it varies each year. The class before us, 7 students were not accepted. They go by the date on which you applied. I was more towards the bottom but others had applied after me. Like one didn't apply until January of that year! And she still got in!

You will do great! The program is tough but that makes you learn and you have respect in the community. Any questions just post em here! ;)

Hi! Thanks for responding. What is your schedule like? I have my general stuff done. What days do you go to class and clinicals? Thanks so much!

Hi! Thanks for responding. What is your schedule like? I have my general stuff done. What days do you go to class and clinicals? Thanks so much!

You attend class two days a week, Monday/Thursday and you do clinicals 2 days a week on Tues/Wed.. Well that's the program

For the transition class you don't do clinical. You attend Thursday evening and Friday morning. All assignments are due on Thursday. They have you start to buy your books for the nursing program during this transition class. It gets expensive. But I thought ahead and went to barnes and noble website and got new books for pretty cheap. My nursing text book I got for something like $88 plus the shipping was free. Was like $139 at the book store. Plus, I didn't want one GIANT textbook like in LVN school so I picked out the one where you get two books instead. Like handling those much better. :)

The transition course is easy and they tell you that too. The teachers all say that the nursing courses are much harder than the transition course and that is so true. No one failed the transition course but people started dropping out during the first semester. Many had to work and a few had things that happened to them physically and they couldn't continue. But during the regular school year you have to really have your nose to the grindstone and just do the study time. If you get below 75% on the tests you flunk out. So shoot for A's! so if you fall short you will still get a B or C.:p

Also, they tell you not to work during the program. I do continue to work but just on the weekend and even then it gets pretty hard sometimes.

So congratulatioins on starting your program! :yeah: How's that baby of yours?:heartbeat

The baby is due April 10th! I have a C-section scheduled fo March 31st right now. Right in the middle of the transition class! I e-mailed the instructor and explained the situation, with the hopes that I can miss a week and make up the work.

Are the clinicals 8 hours? Days, nights?

This whole thing has my head spinning right now! With a baby coming and 3 kids already. Just trying to get as ready as possible!

congratulations!! how is it so far? i'm planning on applying for the lvn to rn program, as well.
