Samuel Merritt ELMSN case management fall 2017

Published

I applied for the ELMSN case management program at SMU for fall 2017 and am wondering who else applied?? :) Lets support each other!

Hi I applied to ELMSN Case Management program for Fall 2017. I'm so excited I can't wait to hear back. Did you apply anywhere else? I also applied to the June cohort ABSN program at Samuel Merritt.

Yay someone else joined in! Nice to meet you!! I also applied to SMU's FNP MSN program for fall 2017, and I am currently waitlisted in USF's MSN CNL program for spring 2017 so I am just waiting to see what happens with that! I wanted to apply to SMU's ABSN program but realized I wouldn't be able to pay for it because its a second bachelors and limited financial aid. What are your stats like? Hoping we hear good news soon! Do you know when we may hear back about the interview?

It's nice to meet you too. I've probably read every post there is on this site for the ABSN and ELMSN program. I wanted to apply to the FNP track but I got nervous I should have though. I was thinking maybe I should just take it a step at a time. I have a B.S. in Health Administration I graduated with a 3.83 and I have 4.0 science gpa. I'm so glad they switched to Hesi my score was way better then what I got on the teas. On the Hesi I got a 89.7. I work at Palo Alto Medical Foundation as a Patient Service Representative I started as a volunteer and got hired on. Oh yeah I wanted to apply to USF but my Anatomy is at the 7 year mark and I didn't want to repeat it. I'm on the waiting list for De Anza college but it'll be some time until my name gets called. When are you expected to hear back from USF? How about yourself what are your stats? I feel like I read somewhere that interviews are around January/Feb. but I'm not sure. I haven't heard anything from the school yet. Well I'm praying good blessing for both of us. Sorry if this is so long kind of excited to talk to someone else that is in the same boat lol.

I did my undergrad at USF (BS biology with minors in chemistry and neuroscience) GPA 3.45. My nursing pre reques are a 4.0. My Hesi score overall is 90.2. I was a single mother for most of my undergrad before I got married almost a year ago, and put myself through college while working multiple jobs. I was a clinical medical assistant for 4.5 years in cardiology and orthopedic offices. I then started volunteering in SF at UCSF corpus clinic which serves homeless populations free health services. Then I started interning at Maxine hall health center in SF in an underserved area through the SF DPH and worked on community health projects. I did that for a year and then was promoted in that office as a medical scribe and did that for an additional year. I went on humanitarian aid trips to Nicaragua and Brazil, and volunteer at glide SF. Being wait listed at USF was really hard for me but I'm just hoping for the best. The more I researched SMU the more excited I got about the program it's an amazing school!!! I was hesitant about the FNP track too because of how competitive it is but I just decided to go for it!! I think we will hear if we got an interview in Jan :) that's another thing I am terrified of! Lol! You have amazing stats, I'm hoping we both get in!!

Oh and I forgot to mention, USF stated that they will keep the waitlist going until Jan 23rd (the first day of classes) and if a spot doesn't open before then, I will reapply for the summer cohort! It's been a very stressful process just waiting. Do you have any courses in progress for SMU? I'm a little nervous because I have lifespan psych and interpersonal communication in progress as I am taking them this spring!

Your stats are really good too it's not easy when your a mom right and doing all of that. Are stories are similar I saw you had your child at 18 so did I. I've been raising her by myself since she was born she's 11 now. You traveled outside of the country volunteering that's really beautiful. I can't wait until I'm situated in a career where I can take some time and travel like that and help people. I finished all of my pre reqs years back. I was going to have to repeat them because they are at the 7 year mark. The counselor told me not to repeat them since my grades were high. This Fall I took Pharm. and Patho. for the ABSN program. Oh my goodness they were both a lot of work but thank the Lord I made it through. You have two classes left you got it your right there.

Congratulations on the wedding btw. I'm planning on getting married next year.

Thank you!!! How cool that we have similar stories. It definitely makes this journey super important for us being that we must support our children too and find balance in what we love to do! My passion has always been in healthcare. During my whole undergrad I was premed but after interning in a primary care facility I saw the beauty in nursing and I realized it was exactly what I wanted to do with my life!! Did you see that they extended the deadline for the case management and FNP programs? I am wondering if they didn't have enough applicants? I know that typically not as many people apply to this program because of the extra requirements, that's what made me wait it out too. I'm very glad I ended up taking the next steps and applying to SMU because I know it's an amazing school and I'd be so so excited to get in! I'm just SO READY to start working towards this goal!

Oh my goodness I didn't know they extended the deadline. Hopefully that means good news for us. Maybe they didn't have enough applicants right? Now I'm even more excited I'm going to go on the website and look. My boss went to the BSN program at SMU and she said if I get in to that program vs. the MSN I should take the BSN. I've been trying to read everything I can and ask people what they think just in case. What do you think?

I just checked the smu website oh my goodness March 1st for the deadline. That's too long.

I applied for SM's ELMSN case management. I have a BS in Nutrition from Chico State. My GPA's are low-Ishmael, because I did bad my senior year. Every class I've taken since then, I've done well. I'm hoping that will help me. I just separated from the Navy, was a hospital corpsman for 4 years and worked in the pacu at Walter Reed in Bethesda, MD for 2 1/2 years. I also am a full time mama right now. My husband is a respiratory therapist in the navy, and we live in VA currently. He gets out in may, and we plan on relocating back to CA. Did you all have issues with nursing cas? Also, they've extended the deadline to March 1? As in, the one that was originally Dec 1?
