Hey guys!
I applied for a med surg position at a local hospital in my city and got an interview, etc. My only concern to this whole process is that my aunt works for the same hospital and department but she works the night shift and I'll be on the day shift. Plus, she's an LVN and I'm an RN. Does this have an impact on my position? I don't know if I'm overthinking but as we're on different shifts and our schedules can be different, I don't think it should be an issue, but can it?

Couple things come to mind .....
Are your names similar? Any chance someone could mistake you for your aunt? I'm thinking the scheduler, and esp PAYROLL?
I ask this GENTLY, but is your aunt a GOOD employee without any disciplinary actions? And is she well-liked? I think even Mother Theresa Princes Diana had their detractors.
Many facilities do hire relatives; I worked 1 place that was sooo heavily loaded with various family relationships. We had siblings, parents/children, marrieds, seriously dating, etc. And same or diff depts, same or diff units, same or diff shifts, etc. The only caveat was no one could be the supervisor of the related family member.
Whether to bring up the relationship during your interview is an iffy decision for me. If it comes up, you don't deny it, just be gently positive. Remember, the interview is about YOU, and how YOU'll enhance the facility.
Good luck to you.

Our lastname is the only thing similar. She's a really good employee with no disciplinary issues, etc. and no, it did not come up during the interview. It's just something that I'm personally concern about whether it has an impact.
Then there really shouldn't be any real problems. But I do stand behind my comments about confusion with central scheduling, PAYROLL, and some other depts. Just something to keep an eye on.
