Did you think to call them and say, "Can I have some feedback on my application?"

they have an eligibility list and ranking- with another 1000 people scoring what I did..that may be for ALL Ca prisons, not just SV....but you get a letter in the mail asking if you want to move forward.......then you return the letter and wait to see if you get called for an interview......another poster returned the letter and got interview two months later,so.......

How long between application and getting this "letter?" I did the online exam in the beginning of August, I already sent in an application, I havent called the recruiter yet, but I am a bit nervous to do so, I havent had to interview in a long time, but its time to move on.

I believe I applied in July, interviewed there in mid August and was offered a position 3 weeks later, then there is the fingerprinting, etc. So I'd say the process will be about 3 months total.

I am a Registered Nurse with over 11 years of experience.... 8 of which has been in Correctional Nursing. I am interested in pursuing a position with the California Dept of Corrections as an RN2. Preferably at Salinas Valley State Prison.

Can anyone tell me a realistic, expected salary? I know what the website states, just wondering the possibility with OT. Also, benefits, vacation time and pension?

Also is there anyone out there that has or is currently working at SVSP?

I'm looking for some in site on what to expect..thanks

I started applying in August, got my first of three interviews in October, got two job offers in January. Now waiting on fingerprinting which will take 4-8 weeks before my firm offer comes in. Its really, really long. I am starting at the bottom of the pay scale but I have less than two years of experience as a nurse and first state job. Benefits and everything are on the calpers website.

Just got an offer for RN at Salinas Valley State Prison. Anyone know how much mandated overtime a week? Do you work (2) 8 hour shifts in a row, or an extra 4 hours after a regular shift? I'm VERY concerned about getting rest between shifts. ANY input will be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

congratulations and welcome to cdcr. I have worked for cdcr for a little more than 6 yrs and I love it. I started as an lvn, and now working as an rn. Salinas valley is a very busy prison for both medical and custody. for mandated OT it is generally another shift, which is 8 hrs long, unless there is somebody willing to come in (from home, or from another post) to relieve you. but generally, its a full 8 hr shift, not 4. have fun at cdcr and have patience, as well :) oh by the way.... there are good days and bad days in prison nursing. there will be days of no rest, and days where there are more rest periods than patient care! it really just depends on the census! but I wouldn't worry too much about rest cuz you will have plenty of breaks between patients. it's just being at work for 16 hrs is what is physically draining :)

Hello. I have accepted an offer at svsp and am looking forward to potentially working with you soon. Could you please tell me how long it actually took for your live scan fingerprints/background check to be processed? Thanks!
