Salary discussion at interview NJ

Published

Hi ! I’m looking for a little help with the discussing of salary during an interview. I have been a nurse for two years. My first job I started at $30/hr as a staff nurse in LTC. I currently am a supervisor at a different LTC facility and now make $38/hr. I have been browsing getting out of LTC and getting into something more acute because I really want to expand my skills and don’t feel LTC has anything new to teach me. I have an interview at an Acute care hospital that is located inside the main hospital. 12 hour overnight shifts. I certainly don’t want to take less then I am currently making but I’m not sure if asking for $45/hr is unreasonable and I am just terrible and figuring this out ?. I’ve been trying to find info on salary information but every site says something different.  I live in NJ so I’m curious if there’s other nurses in this state who can tell me if that is a fair, reasonable hourly rate for night shift in an acute care hospital setting. Thanks !

I've never interviewed for a staff job in a hospital where salary is discussed.  I have been told that if a job is offered that'll be something that HR will discuss, and basically the discussion has been "this is what we'll pay" and then I make a decision based on that.
