hi Ponchie- I'm a freshman student in st vincent. Just want to ask you about school fee. I paid my fee months back-but they didn't withdraw from my account. I also applied for FAFSA and Loan. When do we know whether we are approved for fafsa/ loan??If we do then- are they gonna return the check we submitted for college fee?? how does that work?? I'm bit confused with that. How does things work with u?Thanks!

Hey!

I just recieved a letter today telling me how much I qualified for from Tap and Loans. The check you sent, was it for the full school tuition or are you talking about the deposit? If it was for the full fee then I think they're probably holding your check until they figure out how much you'll be paying out of pocket.

Congrats at getting in.

Any funds given to the school will not be returned. it will be deducted from your total tuition balance and depending on what you recieve from tap, pell, stafford you will recieve a check for what is left over.

example: first semester tuition only nursing courses >>>> $3200

$425 deposit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> - $425

balance owed >>>>>> 2,775

financial aid recieved >>>>>>>>>> 3,500

less the balance >>>>>>>>>>>>>> -2,775

the school will give a check for the remainder $725.00

the financial is is done by one person for the entire school so dont expect your loans to be there at the begining. of the 40 or so students in my class 3 got it in the first few weeks the rest didnt recieve it until 3 weeks before semesters end. As long as ms sumner has your paper work they dont hound you for the bill

but like i said its usually not there in the begining to help buy the books and stuff....

does any of you know about subsidized loan and unsubsidized loan?? which one you prefer to take? I hv no clue about loan system...thanks a lot!!!

Both types of loans have to do with Federal Government Stafford loans only. You must fill out the FAFSA first in order to be considered for those loans and any other aid. Substidized means the government will cover the interest part of the loan only (for those who qualify--you must have a low income level). Unsubstidized means you have to pay back both the interest and the amount borrowed on the loan. It's best to apply for Federal Stafford loans first because their interest stays the same, so it helps keep your total loan repayment as low as possible. It may not cover the full cost of tuition depending on how expensive the school is where you are attending. Whatever it doesn't cover, you must fill this in with private loans that you apply for yourself. Private loans may have variable interest rates (less predictable than the Federal Stafford), so these will cost you more when it's time to pay back your loans. You must pay both the interest and amount borrowed yourself on all private loans. Therefore, government loans are best. You should fill out the FAFSA, so your school(s) will receive it in time and tell you what you are elidgible for in the mail. Then you can decide the lowest possible amount you need to borrow through private loans based on this letter and your own personal financial situation. I'm a newbie myself, and this is all I know about it so far.
