Hi everyone :)
I am currently in college and expect to graduate in Dec2007 as a psychology major and a biological sciences minor. I am definately interested in nursing.
What I would like to do is enter an accelerated BSN program the May or Sept after my college graduation. I would complete most/all of the prereqs at the college I'm at now while I'm getting this degree. If I have one prereq left, I can always finish that the Spring semester (2008) after I graduate and before I enter the BSN program in May or Sept 2008.
My question is.......I realize that most ppl entering these programs have been out of college for at least a few years. Is it unusual or unheard of to enter one of these programs just a few months after obtaining the first degree? Would this lessen my chances of being accepted b/c I would be fresh out of college with the first degree and submitting my application before/right around the time I actually get my BA?
Any insight, advice, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!:)

hi amanda!
nope, not at all. i am graduating this spring with my bs in psychology and hopefully beginning nursing school in the fall.
i was worried that the nursing school i am applying too would hold it against me that i don't have a bs yet, but i understand they are very lenient about it, and give you conditional acceptance.
i know of a couple people who are going straight from one to the other, so you're definitely not alone.
if you have any other questions, please let me know! good luck!!
I'm glad to hear its not that uncommon to go straight from a BA to an accelerated BSN program or to be applying before I even get the first bachelor's! All stories I've heard are ppl going back after a few years of working full time. Thanks for your reply!

I'm in an accelerated program currently, and although the majority of students are pursuing their "second career" there are a few that have come straight in. They seem to be doing great. Good luck to you!!

My program started in May 2005 and I graduated June 2004. Most of my class is around my age. My friend graduated in May and started our program in May. Generally the ages in my program vary from 23-28 with a few older people. Oh and most of us never had a career before starting this program.
Great! Thanks so much for everyone's response. I was under the impression that the majority of ppl in these programs worked full-time for about 5 yrs before in another area, but I'm glad to hear that's not always the case. Thanks again and good luck to all of you in your schooling!
