Just doing some review for the NCLEX with ATI stuff, and the ATI text didn't say what kind of precautions for RSV. Did a Google search, and came across this old thread, which is closed, so I couldn't bump it, but here it is. Hope this helps someone! :)

RSV is a respiratory infection & is a CONTACT precaution.

RSV is a contact precaution

You can use the following acronyms I learnt for precautions

AIR-BORNE PRECAUTIONS(MTV)

M- measles

T-tuberculosis/croup

V-varicella/shingles/chicken pox/herpes zooster

Note that all are negative pressure rooms wt 6-12air changes in 24hrs

Diseases in this group can be cohort/ roomed together, but if there are enough rooms, private room is best for each

DROPLET(SPIDER-MAN)

Streptococcal pharyngitis, sepsis, scarlet fever,

Pertusis, pneumonia

Influenza

Diphteria

Epiglottitis

Rubella

Mumps

Meningitis

Adenovirus

CONTACT(MRS WEE)

MRSA(multidrug resistant staph. Aureus)

Respiratory infections e.g RSV

Skin infections

Wound infections

Enteric infections

Eye infections.

I hope these acronyms help. Infections in d same grp can be cohorted

According to the CDC - 2007 Isolation Precautions:Appendix A - HICPAC RSV is contact and droplet.

Yes, according to the CDC and most hospitals, it's contact and droplet, but for the sake of ATI and NCLEX, it's contact only.
