Rpn to rn bridging hybrid Centennial/Ryerson

Published

Folks, I decided to apply for RPN to RN bridging hybrid program in Centennial/Ryerson which will start this coming September 10, 2015. I just confirm my offer of admission today. I guess, I am trying to gather ideas, challenges and knowledge of RPNs that took this program in the past. What would be my expectations? What are the things that I should be ready about - learning wise and studying techniques? I am trying to prepare myself mentally as this program focuses more on online method although we have to be in the campus one day a week for good two hours. It will be a different learning style than my past learning experience as I was physically in the classroom before surrounded with classmate trying to learn, I guess this time, it will be more of learning on my own.

If you have any advice, suggestions, tips, strategies...anything that could help me in this program, I would really appreciate it. :)

Hello fjcruisergirl,

you seem to know whats in store for us at Centennial this fall. I am also starting the bridging program in September and I confirmed and paid the fees today.

Are we practically learning on our own throughout the program? Even pathophysiology?

Hi there Allittakes, I submitted my acceptance for the offer of admission but I did not pay the tuition fee yet, I wasn't sure if I can just go ahead and do it. After you emailed them your acceptance letter for their offer of admission, did you received any letter or email from them? or did you just go ahead and enrol? I was thinking that after I confirm my seat, they will email me with further instructions as to how to proceed with the enrolment process. Please let me know. t hanks.

I am not sure how to moved this topic to Canadian nursing program discussion forum, I would love to get more response with regards to this topic from people that took this program before or may have knowledge about this program. Is there anyway that you can provide me some instructions to move this topic to Canadian forum or if someone out there able to do it, I am giving you my full permission to do it please.

oh pathophysiology, I am not really sure, I know that if we successfully reach semester 3 we will be taking acute and chronic illness and pathotherapeutics... I am guessing that the one day 2 hour in class will be our chance to interact with teachers in person.

This thread is already in the Canadian Nursing Programs forum. It's quite possible that there are few or no members who have taken this hybrid program. My instincts tell me it's a very new option because I've been moderating the Canadian fora since 2006 and have never heard anything about it before now.

Yes you're doing mostly online learning. I took the program for one semester and dropped out, it wasn't for me.

Hi xokw,

Understandable. I am worried as well if the learning style will be for me. Was it the online delivery that wasn't for you? Or they have unknown surprises that they will only divulge on first day?

It wasn't so much the online portion, as my full-time bridging program is very self-directed as well. I honestly couldn't see myself following through with 5 years of school, having classes in fall, winter, and summer, with no breaks. I also found it very busy considering it was supposed to be part-time. I had friends who took the Nipissing part-time program who were doing WAY less work than I was.

I decided to not waste any more time or money, so I bit the bullet and went back full-time. I am so glad I did.

Part-time might be ideal for some people, but I was not a fan.

Hi could you pls give me info about the application process for the hybrid program. How do I apply?

Did you end up finishing the bridging program?

I e-mailed Centennial a few questions two months ago but still have yet to get any reply... I was hoping you could answer some?

How is the hybrid program set up? The website says "Students who choose the hybrid delivery program will spend time asynchronously online and will attend in-class tutorials once a week to support their learning." Does that mean there's just one tutorial a week for the each semester or one tutorial per subject? And are the tutorials in the evenings? And how are the clinicals set up? Is it one day a week or two?

Only reason I ask is because I'm currently working Mon-Fri 9-5 and want to bridge without having to step down from my full time job.
