RN TO BSN Important Question

Published

So I competed my Pre Reqs at a community college and got my RN from Unitek College which is a CCNE and Nationally Accredited school. Can I do a RN to BSN bridge with my license from Unitek. Does it matter what school I went to?

This is a question for the schools you are interested in attending.

Specializes in school nurse.

Generally speaking, if you have your license, the school is accredited, and your GPA meets their requirements, schools would be happy to take your money and let you in. ?

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

Unitek College, California + Nevada offers LPN/LVN degree and Associate of Science in Vocational Nursing programs; along with generic BSN and BSN completion programs. They do not offer a diploma nor associate degree in nursing ASN/ADN. The college does not grant one a license-- licensure is a function of state government.

Upon college completion, one submits application to the state to take the national nursing exam NCLEX-PN or NCLEX -RN and upon passing obtain state issued nursing license. So if you passed RN NCLEX exam, should already have a BSN from this college.

But can I do a RN to BSN bridge with my RN diploma from Unitek?

What have the nursing advisors of RN to BSN programs told you?

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

It is up to each school to determine. None of us here can give you a blanket answer.

My advisors told me I can do a RN to BSN from regionally accredited schools. I need to know if I can do a RN to BSN from a nationally accredited school. Also as long as a school is ccne does it matter if it is regionally accredited?

Tell us what school you are planning to attend so that a representative from that school can give you information specific to that school.

Specializes in Critical care, tele, Medical-Surgical.

Contact the Board of Nursing in your state.

If you want to work in California contact the BRN.

Well, if your school was not regionally accredited- then there's your answer- and the answer is 'no'. Regional accreditation is different than programmatic (what you are calling national) accreditation. Sketchy for-profit schools like to trip you up there. While I don;t usually recommend Wikipedia- it does have a good explanation of why regional accreditation trumps all other types.

Please read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_accreditation

OP, you don’t have an RN license yet unless you have passed NCLEX from your state. You have a degree, that’s different than a license. You will have to check with each individual school to see what they accept.

What type of degree do you have? Do you have an Associates in Science of Nursing? Are you planning to take NCLEX to become an RN?
