I am an LPN going on for my RN and have to complete a dosage calculation quiz at 100% or I am out of the program.... I took the quiz for the second time today, and failed!! I feel like a complete failure!!

Welcome to allnurses! So sorry to hear about this!

Do you have other chances, or was your second try the end of the road? What part of dosage calculations are you having problems with?

Best wishes --

Welcome to AN! Do you have another chance to take the quiz? You may find this helpful: Student Resources: Nursing Math

If you do have another chance, good luck! If not, you are not a failure- unless you allow yourself to be. Study, reapply to the program or apply to another program, and work through this.

Is there a practice test? When I first transitioned from Lvn to RN, we too had to pass a dosage calculation test. I simply did the practice test, reviewed my wrong answers and reworked them. Then I took the practice test again.

I did have to consult with Google to refresh my memory on how to set up certain problems.

I googled nursing dosage calculations in order to get sample questions.

An example is this:

And here's a thread on using dimensional analysis to solve dosage calculations. This is my favorite method because, although the set up is long, I can check my work easily.

You are not a failure; you have to work on your dosage calculation skills. I found dosagehelp.com to be extremely helpful.
