I am a second degree student currently working on attaining my ADN c/o '14. I am currently interested in going the RN-MSN route, and I'm looking at Peds and Neonatal Nurse Pract. I was wondering for those who applied to either program was experience before applying necessary?? I know you need 2 years experience before you can take the boards for Neonatal Nurse Pract. However, I would like to apply as soon as possible as my prereqs are due to expire soon. I took Stats for instance in my undergrad, which was 3 years ago. I also plan to do my masters parttime while working so I am trying to get started with the theory classes as soon as possible. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions as far as schools that would allow me to possible do this and also anything else that could be helpful.

I am almost done my 2nd year of my PNP program. I had about 4 years of pediatric acute care experience when i started the program. For me personally i think having peds nursing experience helped me through adv pharm. adv patho and adv physical assessment (which i'm currently taking). However, i know lots of NPs that are so smart and great at their jobs that went right into NP school as a new RN grad. I think it depends on the type of person and learner you are. Many schools take new grads, without nursing experience, into their NP programs. Good luck.
