Hello everyone!

Wanted to get some opinions/advice. Moving to San Francisco in January - working on receiving my license now. Does anyone have any idea about the job market and about average salary? How easy is it to get a job in the bay area

Thank you!

We just had a nurse move back to SF after getting her min of 1 year exp. She could not find a job in SF as a new grad and it took her almost 6 months to find one after she got experience so she could move back home.

The market in SF is really bad. I would do some research here on AN and elsewhere and definitely have a job lined up before you move.

I've been working for almost 2 years BSN, does that make a difference? I do have some connections as my aunt works with Sutter but I probably won't have my CA License for another month or so.

Connections or not, have something lined up jobwise before move if you can. Connections help, but are no guarantee of a job.

Don't limit yourself to SF. The Bay Area is quite large and has fantastic public transit.

The state of CA if often hiring RNs, but their pay is about 30 % less than county, private hospitals. The state work is usually UR.

There have been a lot of hospitals rebuilt in order to comply with earthquake standards in all of CA.

List of Hospitals in San Francisco County Private hospitals mostly have a contract with CNA.

Public hospitals have a challenging population.

Hopefully your departure date has some flexibility, don't be shocked if your CA license takes longer than 2 months...like a month or more, longer.

If you have experience, outlook is good. Theres a lot of hospitals, and even more just outside of the city too. No luck for new grads without experience though. Pay is usually very high. I would estimate starting pay between $45-55, and over $60/hour at Kaiser hospitals.

Good Luck!

The Governor fired almost all the Board of Nursing a few years ago for corruption and being incompetent. Maybe it time to clean house again.......

I visited San Fran recently, I was shocked to see how dirty the city was and it stinks there, It had been many years since I have seen been there, sure has changed, It looks so beautiful flying in and out.....
