RN and LPN/LVN in user name

Published

if you have not taken and passed the nclex exam, it is in violation of the terms of service of this bulletin board to use that title in your user name.

please make sure that you are not in violation of this. please refer to the tos to make sure that you understand this.

there are many here that worked very, very hard to get those letters after their name, and it is appropriate that you wait until you earn that title.

Suzanne, could you please answer this question. I passed nclex and have applied for my license with my Board of state I have not received my license yet as they said it may take up to 4 weeks. Can I use RN after my name now or do I have to wait till my nursing license is in hand?

There is nothing in the TOS that specifies about user names including unobtained titles.

I have worked very hard for my education, I graduated in June, passed my NCLEX last week, and am listed on the BON website with a licence number. I haven't received my license yet, but I do have a license number with an issue date as well as an expiration date. I WILL keep my user name at RNLisa, as I am now an RN.

I would NEVER change my username unless I had my RN. In fact, I was told I wasn't allowed to change until I did pass NCLEX. So, I did as I was told.

i would have to think of how it is written...if my user name was sarasota rn, yes, that would be wrong, but as you can see my call name is sarasotarn2b with emphasis on the 2b.

I had the name LPN2Be2004 until i passed boards.

I think my question is misunderstood. I have passed nclex and applied for my license and have not received it yet. I am wondering if while I am working can I sign off as RN with license pending? I am not referring to changing my user name here on the website. Sorry if I worded original question wrong.

  1. please do not use your full name for your username, or any name that will be easy to identify you, your username will be seen on each of your postings.
  2. please do not use your full email address as your username - it will be removed.
  3. please do not put credentials like nurse or rn in your username unless you hold these titles.

i hope this clears up any confusion regarding using the title of nurse, rn, lpn, etc unless the individual has earned these titles.

in the old days we used "gn" for professional nursing program graduates or "gpn" for practical nursing graduates. each state has different regs these days as to what graduates of nursing programs and signature to use.

illinois:

professions and occupations

(225 ilcs 65/) nursing and advanced practice nursing act.

an applicant for license practicing under the exceptions set forth in subparagraphs (g), (h), (i), and (j) of this section shall use the title r.n. lic. pend. or l.p.n. lic. pend. respectively and no other.

(source: p.a. 93‑265, eff. 7‑22‑03.)

title 5 - general provisions

if you can prove nclex passing re results, license number from state website printout, then can use rn/lpn credentials as long as employer approves till certificate in hand.

maybe this should be listed in the regular tos as well.

If you do not have an actual license number issued to you yet, then you are not a "Registered" nurse yet. If you see your name on the website for your state, with a number with it, but have not received the number in the mail, then you can use it, but you must have a number assigned to you for you to be registered.

Just for other people who have "RN2Be" or any variation thereof, this is OK. I have communicated with 2 mods who have said that "RN2Be" was OK.

This would go for LPN's, too.

Suzanne4, is the board cracking down on this? I'm curious, how will this be done? I know of a few people who have LPN or RN and they aren't licensed. Will they be asked to change if they are found out?

I also agree with Marie, this should be in the regular TOS as well if it's not already. When I first saw this post I was concerned about my name. I reread the TOS, and then contacted 2 mods. That's how I found out that it wasn't in the normal TOS but it was seen on initial registration. Could it be placed there as a reminder as some people may want to change their names and need to be refreshed of the rule?

Thank you.
