Hi guys! I have plans on becoming a neonatal nurse after I finish high school so I currently researching on how to become one. Then I came across the RN license renewal which says that for "All RNs in the State of California who wish to maintain an active license are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education for license renewal." I'm a bit confused by this. What do they mean by 30 contact hours of continuing education? Does it mean I would need to take the nclex-rn again to renew my rn license? Thank you so much for your help! :)

NCLEX is pass and done- you shouldn't need to ever take it again. CEs are simply hours spent learning- it can be by reading an article that offers CEs, attending a conference that offers them, taking college courses in some cases. Nursing means becoming a life long learner. You don't stop learning when you graduate nursing school, and you need to stay current on new evidence based practice, medications, treatments, and many other things.
If you want an idea of what articles that offer CEs look like, just Google "free nursing CE" and you will find a wealth of results.
Thank you for answering! This help clear up my confusion.
