All of my family is in Russia. I am married and have my own family here. I did my prerequisites in two years and have 4.o GPA.To make long story short, my mother in Russia is embarrassed to tell neighbors that I will be a nurse. I have worked so hard to get where I am. There is a lot of work still ahead in nursing school. I wish they could be proud of me.

MAMA,
Finishing your Pre-Reqs in 2 years, that's already a lot to be proud of. And on top of that you have children, that is a major accomplishment already. I am sorry to hear that your mother feels that you being a nurse is not up to her STANDARDS, but I feel otherwise. Although she is your mother, listen to YOUR :redbeathe and do what you feel is your calling in life, despite what she thinks. Nursing is such a respectable, stable, and an extremely rewarding profession, I am truly shocked she does not see that. Anyhow, I am proud that you've made it this far, and keep going.. don't stop!
Achieve your dream of becoming the best that YOU can be :nuke:
In my heart, NURSES are the core of the health care industry. They are the ones who give the most care and support to their patients.
Best wishes and good luck in your future endeavors :redpinkhe

Is nursing not respected in Russia?
I think you've done well to get in all your prerequisites in 2 years and to maintain a 4.0. If English is not your first language, then you've done extraordinarily well!!
Be proud of yourself and of what you have accomplished. Try to accept that your mother is who she is, and go on from there. You are doing this for yourself and your family here, not for her.
Good luck to you!
In Russia, nursing could be a first step on a path to be a doctor. Not everyone makes it. Even though economic situation in the country improved a lot in the last 10 years. Nurses are still underpaid and under appreciated. You are right though, I am here and should not worry about what they think there.

A little background of myself; I'm from Europe too. Spanish to be exact, and I must say, my mom feels somewhat the same way yours does. Remember that nursing has evolved alot, and older generations have a different mentally of what nursing is.
Cheers and I wish you the best on this journey! I hope one day I'll make it to nursing school like you!
Fernando.
I got my acceptance letter today! I am so happy! I am in! Hurray! Best of luck to everybody who is still waiting.
