RN Home Health and Sunrise Senior Living, CA

Published

Hi,

I'm a new grad myself who couldn't land any hospital RN job despite my references and endless certifications. I graduated in May this year and I have been working part time at a Rehabilitation and Nursing center for 3 months and this job has opened new job opportunities for me. I'm having an interview for RN Case Manager full time position (M-F 9:30-6:30) and 2 other interviews at 2 different facilities of Sunrise Senior Living. I know this is not where we dream to be at but I definitely believe having a job is way better than unemployed. So, here is what I did:

1. Get certifications with ACLS, PALS, EKG, NRP, IV, Pharmacy Technician, etc.

2. Update my resume often. Use powerful words and verbs to sell myself.

3. Keep applying to hospital, LTC, MD office, etc.

4. I found the RN Case Manager job posting on Craigslist so if you live in Inland Empire area of CA, check it out.

5. I found positions at Sunrise Senior Living in Laguna Hills, Yorba Linda, and Rancho Mirage on indeed.com. I applied on Friday, and got a call on a Tuesday for next week interview. So, if you don't mind LTC, try it.

6. I also continue to watch out for coming New Grad program and keep in touch with my preceptors, instructors, and friends at the hospitals I'm interested in.

7. I also walked into all 19 LTC facilities in my city with my resume in hand and filled out all the applications. That's how I got my current position!

8. Don't lose HOPE. The economy is affecting every job market and profession, so if Nursing is what you really want, this challenge will only make you stronger! (I know it's easier to say but believe me, I am in the same boat and under the same pressure!)

Best Wishes to all New Grad!!!

Thank you for posting your strategy. It should prove helpful to someone who is starting out on the daunting task of looking for work.
