I got a question for anyone who is in or has been in the clinicals (any block) at Rio Salado College RN program. What hopsitals do you do your clinicals, what days, and shifts? I know one of the hospitals you do the clinicals in is the VA hospital but I know there is another one for the phoenix area. Also, how do you like the program and how time consumeing is it? I am doing my preqs right now and I just want to make sure I am right about the days for clinicals etc because I will need to find some stable babysitters. Also when is it a good time to apply for the RN program and when do they usually expect you?

First off, have you talked to an advisor? You really want to stay in close touch with an advisor to make sure you don't take any classes unnecessarily. You can turn in an application during application week of the last semester of your pre-req's ( I would definitely check with a nursing advisor and make sure this is still the case). You need to have a lot of things besides your pre-req's to apply for the nursing program. All of the websites for the MCCD schools have a nursing program link where you can find information about the programs and about the pre-req's.

That being said...when I was applying, clinicals for Rio were on Sat/Sun, every other weekend, for block I. Then during block II I think you went in Sat-Mon or Fri-Sun. I'm not sure where tests are taken, but you definitely will have to practice skills somewhere, so you may need to devote more time than just weekends. Definitely either call an advisor or go talk to one. Things change all the time with the program, you never want to be out of the loop or you may miss out on applying, or may not have everything you need when you do apply.

I think you were asking when do they accept you, the wait when I applied was one to two semesters, but it may be more now that they've lowered the number of pre-req's required.

Good luck in your classes, it's well worth it when you finally get in,

Keli

HI,

My friend is in Block one. She has clinicals right now at Phoenix Baptist. Their clinicals are Mon and Tues 6Am-3pm every other week. They have faster blocks, so her days and times are changing soon...

*The application week is March 27-31, if you are done with your pre-req's this MAY, and then is you dont make that deadline, anytime after that you can turn your app in if your stuff is done.

*Check what ALL you need as your Fingerprints could take up to 10 weeks! (3-4 weeks usually). GO to the Maricopa County College Website to see what else.. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thank you for your post. It helped a little.:) I did talk to advisors and I am aware of the couple of classes that are dropped/going to be dropped. I talked to an advisor every time I register for new classes to make sure I am taking the correct classes. I had a bad experience with an Rio advisor though a year ago who advise me on the wrong classes! I was totally angry a whole semester down the drain for worthless classes! I had my transcripts sent in and everything and she never even took a look at them and notice that hey I already fullfilled a few of my general co preqs:( Ah well you live and learn now I talk to more than one advisor to see if their opnions add up. Thanks everyone.
