Rio Salado HCR 240 Pathophysiology

Published

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had taken the patho course at Rio and would be able to provide any information? I am so confused by the syllabus posted online. Are the quizzes/exams timed? Do we get more than 1 attempt? And do we have to go to Rio for the Midterm and Final? And is it necessary to buy the book package? I've never taken a class online, so I apologize if this info is presented somewhere. I will be grateful for any information that anyone can provide. Thanks in advance :)

I haven't taken that class, but I have taken others at rio. I think some quizzes and exams are timed and you typically only get one attempt. For the math and science courses I've taken through rio, the midterms and final exams were in person at either a rio test site or through a proctor. The book packagestore are required if you need to use software or some thing else that requires an access code. If you don't need the access code you could rent or buy the book used.

To be sure though, email your professor.

For HCR 240 everything is online. Even the final and midterm. Or at least it was when I took it a couple years ago.

I am considering taking this course this coming semester, so I am following this question too.

I took it online at Rio, everything was online. They only thing I remember being timed is the midterm and final. It is an easy course, way easier than I thought it was going to be. I ended up with 100% in the class. Hope this helps!! Good luck!!!

UPDATE: I ended up finishing pathophysiology at Rio and earned 100%. I took the 8 week version. I definitely worked very hard on the essays and answered each part of the questions in depth using multiple sources and in-text citations. You can retake the quizzes if you do not achieve your desired score, which was nice. But if you want to learn the material, I would suggest trying to get a high score the first time. I felt like I learned a lot from the essays. Even though I dislike how time consuming writing essays can be, I think they help you retain the information way more than studying/cramming for a test. Overall, my experience with this class at rio was great. It is definitely something that you could do while taking multiple classes or having a full time job, since you get to work at your own pace. But again, keep in mind that you get out of an online class what you put in to it. If you are going on to nursing school, learning this material will be very helpful, so I suggest trying to understand the material in a way that you can remember it for your future education.

Maycation / cami9273 Do either of you recall who taught the Pathophysiology course you took online at Rio? Thanks in advance!

I sent you a PM, since it is against terms of service, I couldn't post it on here.

I agree with Maycation that it is indeed "easy" to earn an A in the class, but it is a lot of work (I spend hours researching and writing my essays every week), and since we're all going into nursing, taking it seriously is only to our own benefit.

For the RIO section I'm in currently, nothing is timed and you may retake the weekly quizzes if you wish to get the full points. The final is 2 50-question sections which you may only submit once.

Compared to some of the other Rio Salado classes I've taken, my instructor is VERY available, responds to emails in a very timely manner, answers any questions I have, and provides substantive feedback.

Would one of you mind sending me the name of the professor for Rio also? I plan to register for this summer, in between blocks 2-3. Thanks.

Hey, unfortunately I'm too new a user to initiate a PM... :-/ But, if YOU are able to message me, I believe I can reply? If able, send me the names of a few and I can advise which mine was. Unfortunately I don't remember it off the top of my head, but I think I'd recognize her name!
