Welcome to the site
Many have made the move without using agency SueIP is one and she went to Florida. You will be affected with retrogression and currently looking at over 5 years before moving to the US. Plenty of stuff in the International forum would suggest some good starting points would be Primer to working in the US (International forum), threads on retrogression and also some of the threads in this https://allnurses.com/forums/f124/must-read-uk-nursing-topics-consolidated-stickies-272189.html
I would also suggest a search as much already written on OGP

I was supposed to be going to FL & without an agency. I have a job in Tampa & my I-140 has been approved but like many before me I'm caught in the retrogression.
At the moment it will be about 5 years before I'd be able to go, unless they re-instate schedule "A" for nurses.
I'm going to Canada instead!!
I estimate it will take 6 months to a year to be ready for nclex and then i'll see where I am have looked into elsewhere and visited other options and know Florida is for us so am happy to wait if necessary
Hope you're very patient then :-)

Dont go with OGP try to go alone. I wish you luck but please be prepared for a long wait. If OGP is whom you choose to go with be advised that no matter what they tell you b4 they get your money they do not have any contracts with any hospitals in Florida so you wont be sent there.

Helloo! Don't forget me too Anna :anbd:
oops sorry Letina :sofahider
Yes there is also Letina you can ask :hehe:
I did get my job independently too!! Just can't get to it thanks to retrogression!
Please note what was said aout OGP!! It also applies to many agencies - they'll all tell you they have placements in Florida but few do & those that do have them in Miami!! No agency will commit themsleves to a specific city & even if they say they will you'll find they have a get-out clause to ensure that they don't have to stick to it. Trust us on this as we all speak from personal experience or from what others on here have been through.
Florida Hospital in Orlando has a good tradition of direct recruitment but are not doing so at the moment due to retrogression. I would suggest that, if your heart is set on Orlando then get all the things you need like N-CLEX etc then sit out the retrogression until they start recruiting again. It's a gamble but if that's the only place you want to go it may be the only option you have. Florida Hospital are also really keen on nurses with ICU/Critical Care training or experience so you could get youself all set in this speciality while in the UK to maximise your potential when retrogression ends (if it ever does!)

i am an ogp survivor, and like you wanted to go to orlando in the beginning, but then it wasnt important where we went. which was just as well as they dont have any long term contracts in florida. luckily enough we came at the right time, no retrogression, we left the uk exactly 12 months after i sat the n-clex and my experience with ogp was a good one and earned good money in the 18 months that i was with them, but thats not always true of everyone's experience, some nurses have had it rough with them.
