Retaking prerequisites

Published

Hello all,

Has anyone withdrawn from A&P or another science pre-req and received a grade of "W" for doing so? I know some schools allow so many attempts and so many retakes and others allow as many times as it takes. If you have run into this situation what has your experience been. I received my first "W" in college in A&P II not because I was failing, simply for a different reason (irrelevant). I am just a little bit discouraged, I get A's and B's in all my classes, but I keep thinking of this stupid "W" even though my school allows as many attempts as needed.

Thanks, I appreciate it!;)

Every school is different, some schools look at your overall, some will just look at the most recent classes with the best grades. If you are still worried, you can ask to see if you can get a "I" for the class and retake it in another semester to get a grade. I know some instructors will give you incomplete and let you make it up later if you have legit reason. But I can honestly tell you a "W" won't kill your chance of getting into a nursing program. I had A LOT of W in the past, but the school I applied to do not even look at those since they were over 10 yrs ago. =)

In my school you are allowed only two w in the major pre reqs anatomy physio micro. They dont look at the w in the other classes.

A lot of schools have restrictions on how many science classes you can repeat. I would look up the policy for your school to make sure. I had to withdraw from A+P2 the first time I took it. I took it the next semester and got an A- and it did not hurt me when I applied for nursing school.
