retaking NCLEX after graduating in 2015

Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everyone, I would love some advice on retaking my NCLEX after graduating in 2015. I have failed it twice, once in 2015 and once in 2017. I went thru a divorce after that and had to provide for my daughter and did not pick it back up. I am now in a position where I can start studying again. This failure has been a huge monkey on my back and I know I would make a great nurse. I am in Washington State and it seems like the statue of limitations is 3 years out of school. I have put in a few emails to Pearson Vue and the Board of Nursing in my state to confirm this. does anyone have any knowledge on this? any advice? This is a huge undertaking for me and I am scared.

Thank you All!

Hi, I would suggest that you purchase UWorld, the one year membership is expensive but it also comes with two predictor exams which is good practice and also gives you more time to study. Also Google Mike Klimek, there are many of his recordings available online or on Youtube, he also have a blue book, yellow book and notes which I used while listening to his lectures. Listen to his recordings over and over again specially cardiac, endocrine, OB, diabetes and prioritization. Find your weak areas and do more questions on those.

I would highly recommend ReadyToPass! I too was in a similar situation as yours, had been out of school for awhile and out of touch with my studies; tried reviews and failed the test at least 3 times. A friend recommended ReadyToPass and I checked it out for myself! Funny thing is I was apart of their mailing list for years, silly me. But I took a chance went to the review and still did not immediately go and take exam after, it wasn't until 6 months later! But that review was everything and here I am just graduating from BSN program ready to start my next chapter. #ReadyToPass check it out!!!

Thanks for posting because there are many that are in the same boat as you. Everyone needs some encouragement and determination from others to keep on the path of becoming a RN. I do not have any advice for studying material because the popularly studying material is expensive for me. But I was turn onto the study guide that's posted within this thread and I'm to start with it.  Stay strong and do not give up on your dream! You can do this! You made it through nursing school and you will conquer the NCLEX as well!!

Does this mean you have to attend a refresher course? What is required of you by Washington state because you are more than 3 years out of school?

I have a question. My husband graduated nursing school 6 years ago in Texas and took NCLEX 3 times and failed. He is wanting to try again but Texas has the rule you have to test 4 years after you graduate. Oklahoma doesn’t have that rule I don’t think can he test there and then just get his license transferred to Texas?

If your husband graduated from a TX nursing school they probably will refuse to provide his paperwork to test in another state.  I know somebody who was held up in testing (for another reason), and then their school refused to send their paperwork forward.  Whether or not TX will accept a license endorsement from another state under these circumstances may be at issue as well.  He can call and inquire or just start the application process anyway and see what happens.  At best maybe he can pull off one of these solutions, at worst he will be out the money and time he takes when applying.

Hey all -

I just wanted to chime in here and share that IT's NEVER TOO LATE to Pass the NCLEX! In fact, I have helped some individuals who graduated 20 years ago earn their license! Even some who have had an upwards of 20 unsuccessful attempts.

Each state is VERY different in the limitations (or lack thereof) for sitting for the NCLEX. Some have a hard rule that if you fail the NCLEX 3 times that you can no longer test for a license in their state, while others simply require an accredited Nurse refresher program if the NCLEX candidate hasn't passed the exam within 5 years of graduating school - and others have NO limitations!

If anyone is looking for specific information regarding this - I'd love to have a chat with you - so feel free to reach out to me. You can find all my contact info in my profile on here.

Best,

Damion

I just took my NCLEX today and I graduated 2014. I had 27 SATA questions. Since I’ve been taking the exam since 2014, I never had so many 27 SATA questions.

27 SATA questions, teaching, labs, 2 medication, 1 delegation, no calculation, no drop, many prioritization, one contact precautions , the questions were asked backward and indirectly, can be very tricky if you do not know the contents.
