Hello Everyone,
After passing the CPNRE last year, I haven't been successful finding a job. I'm currently bridging to BScN but will not be able to continue with the program full-time until September of next year. In the mean time, I would like to work as an RPN but feel my resume may not be up to par. I also intend to specialize in either wound/footcare or perioperative care starting in January. Can you please take a quick look and let me know what changes can be made so that it stands out to employers? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
SAINTSA

Canadian provinces have been using two digit abreviations since the 1990's, recommend you change Ont to ON.
Your resume shows you were only at Sheridan for one year, this makes the reader question how you completed a full PN program in one year, recommend you clarify your nursing education.
Attendence at a conference is not worth mentioning on a resume, if a nurse presents a poster or is a guest speaker or is a lead organizer at a conference then it is worth mentioning.
CRP heart and stroke should be CPR
A first aid certificate is irrelevant, as a nurse it is expected that you know more than first aid, do not mention it unless you are a first aid instructor.
Clarify your "PSW student" experience, did you take a PSW program first? Where, when?
High school honour role does not matter to a nursing employer.
Where is the certificate of French language fluency from? a recognized certificate in a second language is worth mentioning.
These are just my thoughts, I recommend you contact the RPNAO for more detailed career and resume advice. Good luck
Thank you for the advice dishes. I actually fast tracked my 2 year diploma at Sheridan college so I was only there for a year and a half from march 2012 to august 2013. My psw experience came from placements within the RPN program during the first year when we learned the basics around therapeutic communication, bedmaking, feeding ect. Do you think it's still worth mentioning?

No. The way it is worded really looks like you were a PSW student, not a PN student. Those placements should be included under your nursing placements if they were in your PN program.
Ahh, I see how that would be confusing. I've followed your advice and this is my updated resume. It's looking a little bare right now, which is partially why i'd like to start specialising in January. Im having a hard time choosing a specialty. Im interested in most aspects of nursing but of course want job security once i've finished. I loved my experience in palliative care and would like to explore it further I just dont think im ready to leave the GTA yet to find a job.

Just throwing this out there, but I would replace the PN clinical experience with completed current clinical experience, or, list both, to show that you are advancing, even though you have not yet graduated from your BScN program. Also, have read many places where the "ref avail on req" comment is no longer used. I would list the scholarships/awards that do not refer to McDonalds.
It looks like you took out your work experience, was that just an accident? You have 8 years of customer service experience you need to keep that in your resume.

OP hasn't had paid employment as a PN, so clinical experience is all that can be listed.
But they state they are in a BScN program, so that clinical experience supersedes the PN clinical experience.
Oh ok. I took it off since it wasn't directly related to nursing. I've added it back now. Thank you.
I realised I forgot to add my RN student experience...

@saintsa, have you tried applying to Ontario healthcare facilities that require the ability to communicate in French? ontarionursing has RPN job postings with French language requirement.
