Hello all,
I've been a lurker for years on allnurses and I need some help if someone can provide it.
I became licensed in MN with my RN in 2019. Made a series of medication errors one night at the height of the pandemic in 2020, was terminated and reported to the MN BON I think some time in in February 2021 for this incident. I did retain a nurse attorney. When I was reported, I was working somewhere else and had not disclosed that I had been terminated.
Anyways, after signing some legal documents in regards to the BON report around the end of July and beginning of August, the action was to be made public so I alerted leadership at my place of employment because it would no longer be confidential and I would have to be supervised for 1,000 hours. I was then terminated from that job shortly thereafter in August, and the reason was because I omitted that I had been terminated from my previous place of employment (but I know it's because I had a BON report.)
On the upside, I finally finished my BSN in earlier this month so I remain hopeful that it will somehow help me in this new chapter of my journey.
Now, I have been unemployed from nursing since August of this year. I've applied to numerous facilities and been transparent about my stipulations, secured 3 in-person interviews, but have had no luck securing another nursing job.
My stipulations are as follows:
I must be supervised by a registered nurse who is working the same shift and is assigned to the same unit as I am. In most facilities, a charge nurse on the floor is sufficient to meet this requirement. It must be for 1,000 hours and the stipulations will be administratively removed after I complete the 1,000 hours.
During "litigation" I learned that I had been struggling with undiagnosed ADHD for years and my attorney encouraged me to been seen by a psychiatrist, which confirmed that I had all the trademark symptoms of ADHD.
My life was tumultuous growing up and a lot of things went undiagnosed and untreated for me. I fully accept that I may never get another nursing job, but because of how hard I struggled to even get to school I have not given up hope.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions I would appreciate it. Thank you.
I figured it out, on my own and with the help of various internet threads surrounding this topic. I am employed. I will leave this posting up as a testament of my determination...for now. And, should anyone need help in the future, I may answer questions based on my experience.
