I recently had an interview where they asked if I left and I said "yes". However, the truth is that I was let go because I did not meet the standards of orientation. The rest of the interview went well. Now I feel so guilty that I almost considered calling the interviewer back to clarify that I was let go. They will probably find out from a background investigation and then cross me off their list but now I'm scared to even work there if I get offered a position because I feel they need to know the truth. I'm also a new grad. I just can't believe I was that stupid. Just wanted to vent it here, maybe I will just try to find another job and word it in a more honest way next time (if forced to mention it at all).

Just be honest. Did you get any feedback on which standards you failed to meet? If a potential employer presses you, you need to be able to clearly define why/how you failed and what your plans are to improve your performance. Don't play the blame game or act ashamed; move forward with confidence and a plan. That, coupled with honesty, is your best bet.
Thank you. So I already had the interview and so not sure what to do now. At the previous job I didn't meet an outline of skills/criteria they gave me completely, after a 2 week orientation extension. So I was terminated after my short extension. So to improve I would practice certain (and all) skills as much as I could and maybe study and take any skills classes I could outside of work. I also had anxiety issues but it's time to be confident and positive and move forward.

It sounds as if you interview well, but you really hadn't planned what to say about your termination. You know you screwed up by not being honest. So you know that you need to figure out how you're going to deal honestly with this issue in your next interview. Probably nothing you can do about the interview you've already had, but going forward, have a plan for what to say.
