research nurse practitioner vs biomedical engineer

I am trying to decide which career path is better for me. I am very math brained, and I have always loved medicine. As I started taking science classes and learning more I would find myself trying to think of ways to cure/fix problems. I love the information behind it all. I am just not sure if being a nurse researcher or a biomedical engineer would be a better fit for me. I have seriously looked into both careers, but still cant seem to make a decision.

I would love to hear any advice you have!!

Wow - those seem (at least to me) to be very diverse choices. How about shadowing, talking with people that hold jobs that you are interested in?

I have talked to multiple engineers, but only a few nurses. Because the area of nursing I'm interested in is so specific, it's harder to find contacts.

I think then you may have your answer. If the area of nursing you are interested is that narrow, then the job opportunities will be narrow as well. And they require relocating (which may be ok now, but if you need to relocate in 20 years with a spouse, kids, dog and everything that goes with all that, it may not be so easy).

Maybe search on LinkedIn for a nurse researcher? As I don't know any nurse researchers, so I'm only guessing really.

Nurse researcher are usually nurses with experience in that particular area. To be honest I am a sub-researcher for my practice and that part of the job isn't all that interesting to me. You are just collecting statistics and have very little patient contact.
