Repeated A&P twice...what to do now?

Published

I repeated a&p twice while in prenursing. Both times I made an F. I changed my major to something different and now I am a senior. A situation has come up where I may not be able to get my degree. Now I am considering going to San school and becoming a RN. I have my CPR certification and I have an B in all of my pre-req English and speech classes and I have an C in college algebra and general psychology. I feel a third time around I could pass a&p I with an A. I am more focused now and I would have time to dedicate myself to science. Any advice?

Depends all on the professor for the class. You will need to change your study habits. I took Biology twice. I re-evaluated my study habits before taking A&P 1 this summer. Also if you do decide to go with A&P again get a tutor from the start. Most colleges have free tutoring, or have department tutors. I had received minimum passing grades in Biology and should be receiving a low A or high B in A&P1. Not sure if an academic coach would help?

Also check with the school you're at with how many times you can repeat a class at the school.

I think if you're definitely committed to making an A in a&p this go round then you can do it! Just remember that a&p 1 is just the beginning and then there is a&p 2 which is equally if not more difficult. I'm not sure which school you're looking into, but you will probably have to take micro and chem as well... Nursing per-req classes are a commitment in and of themselves, & it's important to be focused and try to make a good grade as well as really understand the material.. It's hard, but doable, so good luck-- I'm sure you'll do well this time(-:

I do not how old you are now and were but in my own experience it is amazing what a few years can do (20,21 to 23,24). I've had a similar situation and just didn't take school or life seriously back then but like I said a few years can make a world of difference.

I would check what the requirements are for admission into nursing programs in your area. Some have a max of 2 F's or attempts.

I plan on going to a community college and getting my asn. Do you think they will be more lenient towards my grades

I took A&P 1 twice and the first time I got a D, but when I retook the class by it self I ended up getting an A.. If anything thing maybe try another teacher? For me getting a anatomy coloring book helped A TON the second time around, but I am also a visual learner...I want to say that A&P 1 was def a tough class but it seems like you're very determined to pass it this time. Have you tried doing note cards for the terms and stuff? Maybe try a tutor from the start... Good Luck!

It really depends on the school's admission policies. Even a community college can be tough as nails to get into. At this point, it would seem that you should retake the class for the third and hopefully final time. Dedicate yourself to the class. You have to live it and breathe it.

You should also see a counselor with the nursing department to get their advice. Only they could give you the proper advice in how to move forward. One of the schools I applied to had a 1 time repeat policy. Meaning that they took your second grade and that was it. And you couldn't get in with more than 1 C in a science course. Not trying to scare you. Just pointing out that nursing programs vary from school to school. So its important what your school wants and how they handle repeats.
