I'm in the same situation, moving down next month! Try www.apartmentratings.com I've decided on North City 6 in Raleigh, it has very good ratings, but there are hundreds of apartments to choose from, it is overwhelming!

Thanks DeLynn, I will check the site. Also, I am looking for a small complex, maybe 2-max 4 units. I am not a big fan of those huge complexes, whether they have great pool, gym or other facilities. I want something small, duplex would be ideal.

Not really, sorry. Right now I am just searching online and it is hard to decide what is appropriate. Will be there end of July and hopefully, will find something.

Hi DeLynn. I'm hoping to start at Durham Regional at the end of Nov as a travel nurse. It will be my first assignment. Can you tell me how it was? I should be working on MS Orthopedic floor. Did you float to other floors? Most importantly, where did u find housing? Apparantly even with the housing stipend I will only be making $1100/wkly. So I need safe and decent (no bugs) housing for a great price. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I was in the O.R. so I didn't float. The apartment I ended up with was in Durham, Century Creek. It was o.k. clean anyway, but it was near a college so kinda loud. Another traveler I worked with stayed in the apartments right near the hospital, I think they were called Liberty something, she said they were nice. There are some scetchy areas around the hospital. Bier Creek area is nice and not too far, they have a ton of apartments around there and lots of shopping and restaurants, prob a 15 min drive from the hospital

Hi,
I am relocating to NC from CA and I am looking for 2BR apartment in Durham area. Which are the good/safe areas to rent near Durham? Something no more than 30-40 minutes commute from Duke Hospital.

I'm not sure if you're still looking, but try Apple Realty or Bob Schmitz properties - lots of interesting little houses and duplexes, all within 20 min of Duke (most of them much less).

If you're in the area, try driving through some of the nice neighborhoods. A friend of mine found a great property this way! I recommend Old West Durham, Old North Durham, and anything in the areas close to the university. A Craigslist search of those neighborhood names could be fruitful. Good luck!
