Relocating to Fort Worth

I think you are going to find that Harris Methodist FW and Baylor All Saints are going to be your two main hospitals. I've heard (and experienced) good and bad at both.......pretty much like your typical hospital. HMFW just got Magnet status and I know a lot of really happy nurses over there. Baylor All Saints has good benefits as well. I think you are going to have to narrow it down and then just decide on a unit basis.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about Plaza. I don't know if they are true or not. I *do* know they always have a ridiculously huge sign-on bonus...which is always a red flag in my book, but maybe not.

Good luck and enjoy the area. If you move closer between DAllas and Ft.Worth (i.e. the HEB area or Arlington) you will significantly broaden your choices by being able to do either FW, Arlington OR any of the many Dallas hospitals.

Looks like Harris Methodist and Baylor All Saints are both on top of the list. Anybody currently working there - in their CVICU, cardio -thoracic ICU or SICU?

How much do they usually pay for 13 years experience? Certification pay?Differentials?

Anything about PRN/Flex Pool/Tiers?My husband is also a nurse and does PRN stuff.

We are looking at areas near the Tanglewood Elementary School or Parkview Elem School since we have 2 school-age kids. What do you think about these neighborhood?

Average PRN rates in Ft.Worth for an experienced RN = 32.00/hr. Expect 1:1 401K match and similar benefits.

Tanglewood = wonderful school but REALLY REALLY high maintenance parents and demanding school. It is at the heart of a wonderful old neighborhood that has really, really increased in $$$$$. You will not get a lot of house for your money but they are nice, beautifully updated homes. A friend of mine recently remodeled a house there and then moved the heck out. She was tired of her kids being looked down upon for not keeping up with the Joneses.

This is the public equivalent of a private school. PM me and I'll tell you more. Hopefully someone here with some more info can give you the scoop on Ft.Worth schools. Most people either go private or move out to the perimeter such as Eagle Mountain Lake, Weatherford, Aledo, Burleson, Mansifield or Arlington.

No, it's arranged according to what came to my mind first. Hospitals such as North Hills and HEB are also very good.

These neighborhoods are rather pricey for Fort Worth standards. In the Tanglewood area, a 2,000 square foot house will cost over $300,000. This is due to the fact that this particular part of town has a lot of prestige.

The schools you mentioned have an upper middle class clientele of spoiled children and hard-to-please parents. If your children will fit into this environment, then these schools may be a good match for you. If not, look into the school districts of suburban Fort Worth. There's the Crowley Independent School District, Eagle Mountain Saginaw Independent School District, Birdville Independent School District, Lake Worth Independent School District, Keller Independent School District, or White Settlement Independent School District. All of these school districts have schools within the Fort Worth city limits, and they all have good reputations. Also, the homes in these areas tend to be located in safe neighborhoods, are affordable, and offer you more square footage for your money. In my area, which is zoned for Crowley ISD, you can get a newer 3,000 square foot house for about $150,000.

LOL ! You said it SO much better than I did. You speak the truth. I've been at bday parties with these HIGHLY HIGHLY overindulged children and their equally snotty parents and GAWD, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Income wise, we could probably hang with a lot of them. But we choose NOT to and I refuse to put my daughter in a situation like that. These kids were dressed to the NINES DAILY. It was ridiculous. Memberships at Colonial were the norm. I could go on and on and on.

Well, thanks for the info re: these neighborhoods. The reason why I chose them from all the ISD's there is because they are on top of the list as "exemplary schools" according to greatschools.net. They are both ranked # 10 (highest rank) based on their tests scores. I didn't know the rank came with that price. Well, looking at that website (greatschool.net) is the most objective thing I could do on how to choose the school for the kids. Unless, somebody can lead me to another website that ranks the public schools. I am a low-profile person, only wanting to give the best education to my kids without paying the expensive tuition fees that the private schools demand.

Well, now let me think of the next in line - Parkview Elem School. It is under Keller ISD. Maybe this neighborhood is better. I noticed TheCommuter mentioned it in her post.
