Hey guys!

I wanted to know how competitive the residencies are around the Dallas/Fort Worth area? I am from southeast Texas planning to move to DFW after I graduate with my BSN. What are my chances competing with graduates around the area? I was debating on staying where I am or pursuing the northern area of Texas. I have applied for residencies, but hearing how competitive it is, discourages me daily. Also, how does it compare to Houston residency competitiveness?

Landing an acute care residency is extremely competitive in DFW.  All of the major cities in Texas are swimming with new grads vying for the opportunity to get a strong foothold in acute care. DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi etc are all saturated.

That being said, that is no reason not to try.

I would suggest if you are determined to land in acute care, you expand your applications to include hospitals on the Texas/Mexico border and other rural, underserved hospitals. There will be a greater demand at those and a greater likelihood of your application being viewed.
