reinstatement . lincense lapsed

Published

Jan. 29th, i found out my license had expired. In 25 years of nursing i had always received a renewal notice by mail and always promptly mailed in my remewal and fee money. this time i did not receive a notice and failed to remember it was time to renew. my employers took me that day to macon to the licensure board with the proper paperwork my employer downloaded off the licensure website. he felt it would be best and hopefully faster to get my license reinstated if i handtook the paperwork to them. so my d.o.n. took me there. the people there took my paperwork and an 80 dollar fee. they stated that my application for reinstatement would be reviewed at the next board meeting which was jan. 11 and 12. two weeks later i received a letter from the board stating that it was turned over to legal services and i should hear from them soon. and that they would tell me what else i would have too do to get my license reinstated. that was 2 weeks ago, it is friday the 10. and i still have heard nothing. this was just a terrible oversight on my part. i had never even been late with my renewal before. i have not been able to work now for 6 weeks. i still have my same job and my employers are eager for me to come back to work. has this ever happened to anyone else that could tell me what to expect? i am becoming very nervous. i never expected it to take so long and money is running low.

The Ga BON is notorious for lollygagging.

Call your state Rep or Senator to light a fire under them.

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try.

In PA if you move you have to notify the BON within 10 days. License renewals are not forwardable.

Thanks for your reply. I have'nt moved. I just failed to renew my license. I didn't receive a renewal notice as i always had before and i never remembered it was time to renew. This is day 45 and i am still waiting to find out what i have to do. They are suppose to notify me by mail what i will need to do to be reinstated. I have never even been late with renewal before and have never had any disiplines against me. My record is totally clean. I have worked in the same place for 14 years now and i love where i work and what i do.

You never said how far away the BON offices are from you, but personally at this point, I would start making a physical presence there. If legal has your paperwork, I'd be in the office asking to speak to someone about it. It's really hard to ignore someone that's standing in front of you. Be respectful and keep notes just like you would for any conflict at work: date of contact, names, what was said, in objective terms. Just keep working the chain. If you're told that something has to go before a board again, ask for appointments with those members. If it's in someone else's court, get the name and go see them. It's your license and you have the right to make inquiries. Hope you can resolve it soon.

Thankyou Crocuta for your advice and encouragement.
