IrishPsychNurse
1 Post
Hello everybody,
I am a Registered Psychiatric Nurse(BSc, 4-year degree) from the Republic of Ireland, Irish Citizen.
Being heavily focused on psychiatry, we were specially trained to work in acute psychiatric Hospitals(adult and peds), and community psychiatry(peds, adult, and old age) as opposed to general hospitals.
During my education, we shared many of the same modules as our general nurse counterparts, particularly the Biological sciences(Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, etc).
Has anybody has heard of Registered Psychiatric Nurses from Ireland or the UK being hired in NY or other states? Does anybody think I can work there providing I pass the NCLEX?
I know I need my credentials looked at by the CGFNS which is then forwarded to the New York State Education Department who evaluates my credentials, however before I pay the $360 fee, I would like some insights or information.
What type of visa could I apply for?
Kind regards,
IrishPsycheNurse

Hia,
I think you need to contact the BON of where you are interested to practice as a nurse and they would be able to give you more information.
I think you can practice in Canada as a psych nurse only in Quebec and Vancouver. Contact the NNAS . They validate foreign nurses qualifications
ps: I am a registered nurse in Ireland and I qualified in the Uk. Let me know if you need further information
