RN to BSN vs MSN

Students ADN/BSN

Published

Hey everyone! Come March, as long as all things go as they should, I will be graduating with my ADN in nursing! My question is in regards to the next step.. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Community Health & then of course, will have an ADN. I planned on working for a few months & then starting a BSN program. However, the dean of our program told us today that those of us who already have a Bachelor's degree shouldn't get a BSN & should instead go straight to a MSN program. I don't know a ton about MSN programs, besides that you have to sort of specialize, which I don't know I'd be ready to pick a direction so soon after school. I am working on doing my own research, but I'm wondering if any of you have any experience or opinions on what to do!?

Thank you in advance!

You don't have to specialize unless you want to.

I'm in your same position. I have a BS in Education and will start my first RN job next week. In the MSN programs that I've looked at, you have to pick a track such as Research, Education. etc. I don't want to pick a track to get my MSN so early in my nursing career so I'm leaning towards BSN then MSN.

Have you looked into MSN Clinical Nurse Leader?
