Not sure on which way to go

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Ok, I know that no one can make this decision for me, but I am so confused on what I should do, that any opinions will help. I have been accepted to a BSN program that starts January of 08. This is a part-time program that will take me 4 years to complete. It is a very good school, but one of the things that concern me is we go to school only fall and winter and have all summer off. It seems like I could forget alot over the summer, and have a more diffucult time getting in the swing of things every fall. Also, they do have a lower pass rate then the cc does, but I do not know how much that should concern me. I have also been accepted to the ADN program that starts this fall. So I don't know which school I should attend. I am leaning towards the cc because it will only take me two years and it is a lot more affordable then the university. I figure this way I can pay for school without loans, and then hopefully hook up with an employer that has tution reimbursment for my BSN. But then I start thinking that I would have to go back to school, and I wonder how much harder it will be working fulltime as an RN. So then I am back to square one not knowing what to do,lol. Sorry for being so long winded.:uhoh3:

I think the community college way to go is the best idea for you right now for all the reasons you stated. Good luck!

I agree! I have been torn over the same decision (although for me it is where to apply for Fall 2008). I am 95% leaning toward the ADN instead of the BSN because it is soooo much cheaper, 2 years as opposed to 3 years (where I live) and it doesn't seem like there is any kind of advantage in getting a BSN over an ADN unless you want to go into management. Having said that, I do want the BSN (and maybe MSN someday) simply because I love education and want to have as many options as possible some day. Good luck with your decision.

well, at the end of the day, the decision is yours to make...however, I have heard of ADNs that actually take 3 years (with prereqs and nursing sequence)...This is pretty much how it is with the CUNY comm colleges in NYC...that said, I'm going into a BSN program that will take me 3 years to finish, due to transfer credits. In addition, some of the hospitals I'm intetrested in prefer a BSN...The choice was easy for me ( I also want to get my masters)....downside, not getting any grants and need loans...UPSIDE: it will be worth it in the end.

As an adult doing a career change, I needed to get a quality education in the shortest time possible.

I wish as I was able to get the BSN all once, but economically the 2 year diploma program was my best option

Believe in yourself and go for the BSN.. you will retain the information. Tuition will only rise in the future leaving you more to pay later. You never know what great opportunities your future may hold....

I have my ADN. and to quote one of my fabulous instructors back in Kansas. " A nurse is a nurse is a nurse.". I love that line.. lol. I got my ADN in kansas. took me 22 months and 4 semesters. We didnt have classes in the summer. I took a job in New Mexico and the community college here has an ADN program that is 4 semesters but they go during the summer so it only takes them 1 year to get their ADN, however its a 3 year wait to get in their program. Just thought I would share!
