TRY AANAC.ORG, I THINK IT'S AROUND $100.00/YEAR TO JOIN BUT IT IS VERY INFORMATIVE. LET ME KNOW IF YOU COME UP WITH ANY OTHER ONES. HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW MDS 3.0 DRAFT? WENT TO A SEMINAR LAST WEEK & THE SPEAKER SAID WE MAY BE USING IT AS EARLY AS JAN. 2004.

No need to join AANAC unless you have money to burn. Don't waste money on 1-day seminars either. It can't be learned in a day. Nor would you actually retained the knowledge without doing the task on a regular basis.

If you have the MDS RAI manual (Revised December 2002, updated August 2003) and an actual on the job training, everything will fall into place. MDS info is easily accessible on the web. You can even post a question in the Geriatric forum here.

For starters...

I can also hook you up on an MDS help site with instant answers from seasoned MDS experts (non AANAC affiliated).

MDS 3.0 implemented in Jan 2004 is not feasible. They just put an update in August 2003 for the MDS 2.0, now they're gonna dump it? Software companies still have to do a beta test on it, too. Jan. 2005 is the intended target date but it can always change since it's still under scrutiny. Either way, CMS would provide all of us with ample time of the actual dates... including extensions ...

My advice regarding the MDS career -- PURSUE IT! The demand is great and the opportunity to work as a consultant is brighter, not to mention ... $$$$$$;) Good luck!

I have to disagree with you on a few things, I think AANAC is helpful, and NO, I don't have "money to burn". There is alot to this job and I find seminars very helpful, even the ones that are for 1 day. Furthermore, as far as the MDS 3.0, I was just passing on what I was told in a particular seminar, no need to be hasty.

LOL oceanblue... 'sorry you misterpreted my input.

I did not say AANAC was useless. I was simply responding to the original post. If you need input from AANAC, you don't get it for free. You have to become a member. There are websites out there offering free MDS information and that's where I pointed the poster to.

Obviously you are familiar with the MDS to find one day seminars helpful. 'am glad for you. It is useless for those who does not have a clue how MDS works. You have to have current knowledge of the subject to understand what the seminar is all about.

And LOL no, I did not mean to he hasty (or nasty) about the MDS 3.0. There is too much hype put on this subject by speakers to get attendees to participate in a seminar. But all is discussed is the outgoing MDS 2.0. A typical money-making scheme, just like a year end sale for outgoing car models.

As you can see MDS 2.0 came up w/ a revision in Dec. 2002, 8 months later the revised edition is again revised. It's so obvious the "authors" can't get their acts together yet. Now everyone is talking 3.0. That's why I gave a grin about it being implemented in Jan. 2004, but rest assured it wasn't meant for you.

My apologies then if I have upset you. I post my own opinions but I do not solicit or expect a ratification so feel free to disagree.
