I'm currently applying to both NP and BSN programs here in Boston at all of these schools. What is your experience there? Good? Bad? What is the best choice?
Thanks much!

It depends if you have the motivation and can study on your own and don't need a man with a stick to make you do the homework.
You don't get to do anything at Northeastern. At least half the students don't even buy the text books and you can pass the tests by cramming. And in most classes the professor lets the students out early. The priority is for each professor to get a good evaluation and to not turn any stone that might reveal a gap of knowledge that students have. And clinical instructors just care that they don't get in trouble and want the students to do as little as possible. Northeastern skips the practice and teach you the theory. The coop program should be reduced from three to one because you learn to be a nursing assistant in 6 months and you don't need another year of the same.
BC has harder working students but they don't have the coop program.
Both BC and Northeastern charge you 30k per year minus your financial aide package which for me means 60-70k out of school.
Community colleges teach you the skills and let you practice them. They MAKE you work hard and train you to perform the job like it is and pass the NCLEX.
I know Mass bay grads who become A+ nurses, and Laboure grads who found jobs too. Bunker hill too a guy I know works in LTC and is very good.
Us BC and NEU kids graduate with a major set back - college loans. That plus many us have to pay rent, car, etc.
Just my personal opinion of course, so take it with a grain of salt. :)

You can find my opinion of UMass Amherst here: https://allnurses.com/massachusetts-nurses/umass-amherst-dartmouth-341886.html
I just graduated from there and LOVED it. The professors are very involved and want you to succeed, the program is very demanding but you will be a better nurse for it.
Keep in mind as well with this difficult economy, you can go to Northeastern or UMass and come out with the same degree, same salary and quite a bit less in loans, and as always, do your research, do you like a big school, or a small one, the city or rural. Visit the schools and talk to current and past students to get a feel for each place. Good Luck!
I second that. Umass amherst is a great program and costs less than NEU. So is umass boston, although my impression is that amherst is better.

I currently have an ASN from Laboure back in 06 when the credits were $375/credit; now it's something like $675 or so. At NEU where I plan to start my RN-BSN program, cost just $310/per credit. To each his/her own, but you really need to do the foot work and reseach the individual schools to see which best fits your needs in regards to pre-requisites, location, clinicals, cost, etc. You may like what another may not. Good luck in your journey.

I graduated from Curry College in '08. I think your first decision should be what kind of degree do you want? When you look into your future, what do you see? Are you at a job where you need an associates? or do you need to further your career? I graduated from Massassoit Comm. with an associates in liberal arts science-transfer while I was waiting to get into nursing school, yes waiting, there can be a long time to wait. Curry accepted 72 credits from MCC so I got to skip freshman year and start as a sophmore. Yes, I have student loans up the wazoo, but, I work in a Critical Care Unit and I'm looking forward to someday getting my Masters in Acute care nursing. I'm so glad I got my BSN, it's well worth the extra time and $$. I'm 36yrs old with 2 young boys and I could not have chosen a better field to get into. Nursing to me is not a job, it's a lifestyle. What kind of lifestyle do you want?

Hi..I got my ASN from Bunker Hill CC back in 2002 and my NP at MGH -IHP. I thought BHCC gave me a great education for the money..what a bargain and my tiny evening class gave me lots of attention and of course we all passed the NCLEX...MGH IHP was expensive..forutunately I had good clinical placements..some of my classmates not so lucky..My advice..be careful with loans..you'll read on this website how difficult it is for new grads to get jobs in Boston ..also look at the NCLEX pass rates from each school that you're considering..its published on the MASS Nursing Board of Registration.
Good luck!!
