Hello Everyone, I have a question that I keep asking and getting different answers so I wanted to ask the Professionals---
Basically this is the circumstance, I was in an inpatient facility for drug use 8 years ago and I've been clean since that time. I have no criminal record -- And I am a doing pre reqs for an Associates in Nursing. Will that time I was in an inpatient facility for drug use prevent me from getting accepted into my program or will it prevent me from getting Licensed? Please Advise.

The best place to ask would be your state BON. Some states ask if you have had addiction problems or arrests. Some don't.
I am in Texas
So my recommendation would be to contact the Texas BON.

They will likely order an evaluation in order to evaluate your current situation. They may require you to participate in the eep or tpapn programs but know way to know yet. I say talk to a lawyer to find out exactly what you have to disclose and get a declaratory order in there pronto so you don't waste your time in school.

My advice is to keep it to yourself and tell no one. You are setting yourself up for a lifetime of trouble if you admit that you sought help 8 years ago. It is so wrong what nursing does to people, but that is the world we live in.
On the other hand, maybe your state won't be as damning as mine was, but why risk it?
