Hi all
I'm a nursing student doing some research about referrals on medical-surgical floors. What is your unit's policy concerning referrals? Do you need physician approval to request social work, an RD, OT, PT etc?
Just curious as how facilities differ in this way.
Thank you so much in advance! :)
please help - I need input from at least a few nurses.
Thanks again! :)

I've been in the ED for the last few years, but the 8+ years I spent in the unit, we were able to make "in hospital" referrals for RT, RD, or social services without an order from the doc. Now things like PT, OT would need an order. It would really depend on the situation and what was needed.
