I recently graduated with an ADN and passed the NCLEX. I am starting to look for my first job as an RN. I really want to work in the ICU or ED. As a new graduate, are there any advantages of using a placement recruiter in the job search or should I just apply to the hospitals in my area. I would love to hear your opinion and experiences - good or bad, with recruiters. Thanks.

recruiters often have alterier motives like ceo's and physicans. you can't always trust them.. carefull.

I agree with Alan. If it comes down to losing you or losing a contract with a hospital or doc, guess which one it's going to be. Nurses are in enough demand that you should be ok on your own.

Ditto what the other two said...you're more likely to find exactly what you want and not get cheated if you deal directly with the hospital yourself with no middle man.

I used a recruiter as a fairly new grad and have absolutely no regrets at all. She was excellent and so helpful. She got me a job in a place where HR said they had no openings. Whether you use a recruiter or not, be aware that HR is often completely useless.
